Your Townhill Ward Swansea Council Candidates | 3 May 2012

Doug Hunt

Douglas Hunt | Townhill, Mayhill, Gors and CockettHello, my name is Doug and I have been living, studying and working in Swansea for four years now. I came here for University, but have decided to stay and to set up a business here in the city. Swansea to me is a place of opportunity, of potential. It has so much going for it and all it takes is for someone to put some hard work and graft in and then they can be, make and achieve what they want.

The reason I joined the Townhill Liberal Democrats is to simply help local residents. I feel that 'The Hill' has a bad reputation that it in no way deserves. There are thousands of residents who graft for every penny they have, care for their families and their communities. After a long day at work, coming home to look after the family, most people do not physically have the time to give back all that they can and sort out the small jobs in the community. This is why I joined the Townhill Liberal Democrats and these small jobs are the ways in which I, along with other volunteers, can help residents.

Chris McColgan

Chris McColgan | Townhill, Mayhill, Gors and CockettOriginally from County Londonderry in Northern Ireland, Chris McColgan came to Swansea to pursue a degree in history and politics at Swansea University. Graduating with a 2:2 in 2011, Chris set up his own business providing support for small business for their Social Media Activities. When the opportunity to stand as a candidate in the local election came up, Chris jumped at the chance to give something back to the city and people, who had given him an amazing three years during his time his time there. A keen fan of Formula 1 and supporter of Swansea City F.C, Chris' interests includes Science fiction and Fantasy literature, Stand up Comedy, Movies and Gaming.

His main political interests are Economic Growth, particularly the support and development of small businesses and Constitutional issues, such as the framework and further development of Devolution across the UK. Asked about running in Townhill Chris said, 'I am looking forward to the opportunity to help the people of Townhill and the chance to build upon the successes of the Lib-Dem led Council

I think that Townhill is a lovely place, with spectacular views and friendly people and it's only right that the Council work to ensure that Townhill and indeed all of Swansea reflects the strong sense of Community and welcoming nature that the people have in abundance'.

Sam Rees

Sam Rees | Townhill, Mayhill, Gors and CockettHello, I'm Sam, a native Welsh lad through and through. I moved to Swansea a few years ago but since then I have fallen in love with the city. It's locals, its scenery, its sense of community and some of the more weirder sides to things such as Uplands Diner.

One of the reasons I have decided to join the Townhill FOCUS Team and run for council election is because of my love for Swansea. Yet I feel that Townhill, with what can be some of the best views in the country is falling behind the rest of the city. Despite it having some amazing local residents doing more than their fair share of work for the community, I feel that the hill has been let down by their local elected councillors. With such a beautiful surrounding and friendly locals it has so much to offer - streets are filled with potholes, street signs are missing and fly tipping is over-running the area.

I am not in it for the pay cheque, not the expenses, not a long term job, but in it for the love of this great city. I believe that if we start local, on a street corner, in a litter pick or by just listening to your concerns we can make Townhill one of the greatest places to live in Swansea.
